What does Kokedama mean?Kokedama originates from ancient Japanese arts for the care of greenery, including the art of Bonsai, Kusamono and Nearai. "Moss pearl" or "Moss ball", this is the translation of Kokedama, a balance between past and present, simplicity and perfection. The preparation techniques can be different, based on different philosophies or lines of thought. With the Kokedama technique, the plant is removed from the pot and the soil in which it lived to accommodate it in a new sphere of soil, rich in draining and nourishing material for the plant. This sphere of soil is then covered with moss, closed with a cotton thread to weld it to the plant itself.
